Costumes for World Book Day

The next world book day is being held on 1st March 2012, some schools vary the day they dress up for World Book Day so its best to plan early and be prepared.  Most other countries hold their book day in April but the UK and Ireland plan theirs in March to suit school term times so Children can most benifit from the celebration of books.

Wolrd Book Day's origins date back to a tradition started in Catalonia over 90 years ago where it was traditional to give books and roses as a gift to loved ones on St. George's Day.  UNESCO designated World Book Day as a worldwide celebration of books and is marked in over 100 countries worldwide.

Schools now encourage children to particiapte in this day by dressing up as their favourite book character and hold many similar days throughout the school year.
